Magic's MBC has 60 new cards, Commander-legal November 13
Mystery Booster Commander Edition: 20-card boosters, 24 per box. New cards hit Commander November 13, 2026 and Legacy, Vintage January 1, 2027.

Mystery Booster Commander Edition (code MBC) is a Magic: The Gathering set built for Commander Draft. Its new cards become legal in Commander on November 13, 2026, and in Legacy, Vintage and the other Eternal formats on January 1, 2027. Gavin Verhey and Eric Engelhardt are the lead designers.
Wizards of the Coast has now laid out the full booster structure, the odds for the special slots, and the events where the set will be played.
What is in a booster
Each MBC box holds 24 booster packs, and each pack holds 20 Magic cards. The pack breaks down as follows:
- 3 white, 3 blue, 3 black, 3 red, and 3 green commons or uncommons
- 1 reprint of unspecified rarity
- 1 reprint rare or mythic rare Commander card
- 1 new Commander card
- 1 card that is either non-foil or foil
- 1 Future Sight-frame card
- foil acorn-symbol cards, at under 1%
- 1 playtest card
The new Commander card is non-foil in 95.25% of cases and foil in 4.75%.
The Future Sight-frame slot has its own odds. A common or uncommon appears non-foil at 43.3% and foil at 2%. A rare or mythic rare appears non-foil at 52% and foil at 2.4%. The percentages may not total 100% because of rounding.
What the set contains
The set draws on more than 2,000 cards from Magic's history. Reprints marked with a planeswalker symbol were chosen for the best Commander Draft experience. That symbol sits in the lower left corner of every card except tabletop-new cards, playtest cards, Future Sight-frame cards, and acorn-symbol cards.

Gavin Verhey created 60 new cards for the set. Some of the new Commanders carry a new ability word, Rulebreaker, which bends the Commander rules. The details are in the English-language MBC release notes.
There are 134 different Future Sight-frame cards. Some are reprinted from Mystery Booster 2, some appear in non-foil or foil for the first time, and some are entirely new.
The set also has 121 different playtest cards, the same lineup as the playtest cards in Mystery Booster 2, and each booster contains 1 non-foil playtest card. Ten different foil acorn-symbol Alchemy cards first appeared in Alchemy sets on MTG Arena. They rely on digital-only mechanics and do not work under tabletop rules.
One Alchemy card is an exception. Tsagan, Raider Warlord, a double-strike Dinosaur, is reprinted in MBC for tabletop. Unlike the other Alchemy cards in the set it has no acorn symbol, and it is legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage.
Format legality and timing
MBC is legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage. Individual cards from the set can be used in any format where they are already legal.
Playtest cards and acorn-symbol cards cannot be used in constructed formats. They can be used in drafts and sealed events that use MBC.
The staggered dates matter for deckbuilding. New MBC cards are legal in Commander on November 13, 2026, but Legacy, Vintage, and the other Eternal formats have to wait until January 1, 2027.
How Commander Draft plays
The recommended format starts with 8 players, who draft and then split into pods of 4 to play. Each player opens 1 of 3 packs and picks 2 cards at a time. Packs pass left, then right, then left. Players build a 60-card Commander deck from their picks plus provided basic lands.
In MBC Draft events, a Commander with one color or fewer in its color identity can be treated as if it had partner. A player who drafted two colors but only has a Commander in one of them can add the other chosen color to the deck's color identity. To do so, the player creates an emblem that counts as a second Commander.
Where to play it
MBC will be played at events such as MagicCon, which will host a wide range of events using the set. MagicCon: Atlanta runs November 13–15.
The other listed MagicCon dates are:
- Detroit: February 26–28
- Tokyo: May 14–16
- Las Vegas: August 27–29
- Amsterdam: December 3–5
MBC can also be experienced at other large events held in 2027.
A product called Festival in a Box, sold on MagicSecretLair.com, includes an MBC box. Details on how to obtain the new cards will be posted on @MTGSecretLair, @MTGFestivals, and DailyMTG.
The Atlanta event shares its opening day with the date new MBC cards enter Commander. TCGKing has also covered the Magic Star Trek set for November 13.
What is still unknown
