Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes releases on June 26, 2026, and preorders are open at local game stores, TCGplayer, Amazon, and other Magic retailers. Wizards of the Coast has laid out the whole launch programme: Avengers Academy events on June 12–18, Prereleases on June 19–25, and several in-store formats that run through August 6. Two Magic Spotlight events, each with a $60,000 prize pool, are set for Las Vegas and Brussels.

The launch window, step by step

The first chance to play with the new cards is Avengers Academy, a Learn to Play series that runs June 12–18 at participating local game stores in the US and Canada. Each player gets a Marvel Super Heroes Welcome Deck and plays Two-Headed Giant matches alongside a teammate. Each teammate runs one 30-card half-deck, and the two halves can afterward be merged into a two-color 60-card deck.

There is an incentive to keep going after that. Players who register for both Avengers Academy and a Two-Headed Giant Prerelease receive a pair of wearable Loki horns at the Prerelease, while supplies last. Stores that registered early for Avengers Academy also get a drawstring bag and a double-sided Hero // Villain token, while supplies last.

Prereleases run June 19–25, 2026, beginning on June 19, 2026. Players build a 40-card sealed deck from the contents of their Prerelease Pack plus any number of basic lands. Each pack holds 6 Marvel Super Heroes Play Boosters, 1 traditional foil rare or mythic rare card, 1 deck box, and 1 Spindown die in one of five colors.

Stores choose their format. They can run a traditional Prerelease, with one opponent per game, or a Two-Headed Giant Prerelease, where a team of two faces another team of two.

After release: June 26 to August 6

Three programmes share the June 26–August 6 window, plus a fourth that runs in two shorter blocks.

Magic Academy covers Learn to Play and Deck Building events at local game stores. Learn to Play sessions reuse the Marvel Super Heroes Welcome Decks from Avengers Academy. Select stores in North America, Latin America, Japan, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa will also receive copies of the Marvel Super Heroes Beginner Box for these events. Deck Building sessions open with a short tutorial video, then players build their own deck from six Play Boosters.

Standard Showdown asks players to bring Marvel Super Heroes cards into Standard. The winner of each event receives a traditional foil Dark Deed promo with artwork by Jason Smith, while supplies last.

Two-Headed Giant Commander Nights also run June 26–August 6. Stores give away one of two promos while supplies last: Echo, Perceptive Prodigy (art by Alessandra Pisano) or Mister Fantastic, Reed Richards (art by Tyler Walpole). Non-foil copies are available at most WPN retailers and traditional foil copies at WPN Premium locations, and each store decides which promo it offers.

Commander Party is scheduled for July 3–9 and July 31–August 6. Each player picks one of six Super Heroes, each granting a bonus that matches the character's powers. Starting on the first player's third turn, every player rolls a six-sided die at the start of their end step, and the result triggers the matching Infinity Stone's ability. A player whose Super Hero reaches three infinity counters gains its infinity ability. Participants receive the Echo, Perceptive Prodigy or Mister Fantastic, Reed Richards promo while supplies last.

Magic Spotlight: Las Vegas and Brussels

Magic Spotlight: Marvel Super Heroes takes place June 26–28 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and July 24–26 in Brussels, Belgium. The main event is Team Limited, played in teams of three, and each event carries a $60,000 prize pool.

Every member of every participating team receives a non-foil Elektra, Daughter of the Hand promo with artwork by Alessandra Pisano. Traditional foil copies go to the top teams, but the published cutoff is inconsistent: it appears as Top 48 teams in one version and Top 8 teams in another.

The competitive stake is an invitation to the first Pro Tour of 2027. Each member of the Top 4 teams at each Spotlight earns one, which adds up to twelve invitations awarded at each event.

The overall winning team gets the most distinctive prize: an Infinity Gauntlet winner's trophy produced by East Continental Gems for each team member. It is a collector-quality bronze piece with an 18-karat gold bezel and five recessed bronze knuckles, given as nine-inch in the English article and 23 cm in the French one. Each trophy carries a yellow oval citrine gemstone of approximately 3 carats, measuring 10 by 8 millimeters, representing the Mind Stone.

Magic Presents: God of Mischief and Double Issue

Magic Presents: God of Mischief runs July 17–23. A team of three plays against a single player cast as Loki, who starts with 60 life.

Magic Presents: Double Issue was added to the programme later and takes place December 4–31. Its rules are not detailed yet.

Where this fits

Marvel is a recurring thread on TCGKing's Magic calendar. Coverage of the Marvel Secret Lair Countdown Kit lists a 30-card kit for $199.99, and a separate report covers Darkhold Destiny, which is set for April 9, 2027.

What it means for players

  • New players: Avengers Academy on June 12–18 and Magic Academy Learn to Play from June 26 both use the Marvel Super Heroes Welcome Deck, so the same product covers both entry points.
  • Prerelease players: Expect a 40-card sealed format built from six Play Boosters and a foil rare or mythic rare, and check whether your store runs the traditional or Two-Headed Giant version.
  • Competitive players: The Spotlights award twelve first-Pro-Tour-of-2027 invitations at each of the two events, and Standard Showdown starts June 26.
  • Players in Europe: Brussels hosts the second Spotlight on July 24–26, and select European stores will receive the Beginner Box for Magic Academy Learn to Play.

What is still unknown

No price has been announced for the Welcome Deck, Beginner Box, Play Booster, or Prerelease Pack. The names and abilities of the six Commander Party Super Heroes have not been published, nor have the full rules for the two Magic Presents events. Which stores take part in Avengers Academy outside the US and Canada is not stated, and the foil Elektra cutoff, Top 48 teams or Top 8 teams, remains unresolved.
