Magic Presents: Black History Month Celebration Commander Event Set for February 2027
WPN stores can host the Commander event February 1–28, 2027, with a foil Vivien Reid promo and a Black Girls Code donation of up to $45,000.
Participating WPN stores can now sign up with Wizards of the Coast to run Magic Presents: Black History Month Celebration, a Magic: The Gathering Commander event that takes place across February 1–28, 2027.
Every player gets an emblem, and anyone who takes part can also pick up a foil Vivien Reid promo card as long as stock lasts. Wizards will also donate to Black Girls Code for each participant, up to a cap.
Black History Month Celebration Event Format
The event is a Commander play experience, described as fun and flexible. Its purpose is to celebrate the culture, stories, and expressions of Black identity.
Iconic Black Planeswalkers from Magic's Multiverse take the spotlight, and the event supports Black achievements as well as Black Girls Code.
Emblem and Vivien Reid Promo Rewards
- Emblem: each player receives one, giving access to abilities from powerful Planeswalkers, including Teferi Akosa and Kaya Cassir.
- Promo: a Vivien Reid card in traditional foil, featuring art by Eli Minaya, available until supplies run out.
Black Girls Code Donation: Up to $45,000
Wizards of the Coast has partnered with Black Girls Code and will give $1 for every event participant at WPN stores worldwide. The total is capped at a maximum of $45,000.
Black Girls Code gives girls and gender expansive youth of color a path into game design and coding. The group helps girls between seven and seventeen grow into STEM innovators and community leaders; find it at wearebgc.org.
