Magic Japan's official Daily Deck column by Iwashow features a Standard Jund (black-red-green) Sacrifice list that fits one copy each of Smaug and Wolverine, both searched and reanimated with Cheerful Lament (陽気な哀歌). The deck sacrifices artifact tokens, with each Bioengineering Specialist (生体工学の専門家) dealing 2 damage per artifact sacrificed and Sackville-Baggins Family (サックビル=バギンズ一家) dealing 1 per token sacrificed. With several specialists plus Sackville-Baggins Family on the battlefield, one token can count as 3 or 5 damage.

The archetype grew sharply in number after the release of Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit and filled Magic Online tournament results. In the Reality Fracture environment, more lifegain decks appeared, so the deck no longer wins as easily as before.

The featured main deck has 22 lands, 24 creatures and 14 spells. Smaug (壮大なる者、スマウグ) has power 4, flying and haste, and deals damage on attack equal to the number of Treasures. Wolverine (獰猛な戦士、ウルヴァリン) has haste and fights a creature when it enters, and can fight the player's own Greedy Plunderer (強欲な掠め盗り) to obtain a Treasure token. Cheerful Lament is a sorcery that either searches for a card and puts it in the graveyard, or reanimates up to 2 creatures with total mana value 4 or less.

For a time the mainstream version used Rot-Mouth Viper (腐敗口のバイパー), paying its cost with artifact tokens. Recently the mainstream list, like this one, does not use it.

The author says new cards from Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek may change the list.
